[Discuss] What is /dev/zram0?

On my dual boot desktop, if I use the gnome-disk utility, I see a 13G 
drive with the device /dev/zram0 which is used as swap area.  I have no 
idea what this is, or where it is located physically. When I boot into 
Windows 7, I don't see any evidence of it.

Using sysinfo, I can verify that I have 24G RAM on this computer, but am 
mystified by this /dev/zram0.
