I saw recently saw an article extolling the virtues of Zorin OS. I had tried it several years ago and found it to be OK at that time.
I decided to give the recent version a try on my son's old computer with the Live DVD (it is running Windows XP right now). I want to get him off XP. I think it might be too big a leap for him to move to LINUX, especially since he lives so far from me. I will probably be trying to get him a new PC as I think this one would be too slow for Windows 7 (he definitely does not want Windows 8).
>From the short time I have been trying it, I am really impressed! For a Windows user wishing to move to LINUX, it looks especially attractive. For such a user, it is so quick and easy to change the "look" to:
GNOME 2
Windows XP
Windows 7
After a while it did "hang", probably because I had too many things running. I might try it on the netbook, if I can figure out how to put it onto a USB drive and boot from that.
I think Zorin OS 9 (based upon Lubuntu 14.04) will probably be out in a few months "after the bugs are worked out of Ubuntu 14.04".
