I have a Timex Sinclair 1000 with 16K RAM pack if you would like that
for a show. It's the North American version of the Sinclair ZX-81.
Z80 based goodness.... I had an EPROM for it to run it as a Forth device
somewhere. Machine coding was most effective on the device since it was
more efficient use of the 2K base memory. I stripped my original out
of the case and put it into a wooden box so the RAM wouldn't move
(crashes it). After 15 or so years that one fried so I picked up one
in original boxes from ebay as a collectors item and socked it away.
What I really wanted was a Sinclair QL. Never made it to North America
though...
I had to send my Atari 130XE and ST computers to recycling heaven
a couple years ago. Machine language was quite interesting on
those too. The ST had transputer (INMOS) connectivity added to it
to experiment with parallel processing.
That was many manuals ago.....
The RaspberryPi groups remind me a lot of those systems. People are
organised around the 'PI with similar dedication.
