Hello Murray,
I am running chrome and I get no such message.
Perhaps try 'purging' chrome and reinstalling.
There may be some permissions problem with one of the installed files.
sudo apt-get purge chromium-*
reboot
sudo apt-get install chromium-*
It could also be a phishing thing messing with your system.
