The Dell non-standard PC parts thing is a very good point.

But if you're going for another ten years:

That price looks steep but that's ~$450 per year for ten years.
Most people spend over $1000 per year just on their network connection.

If you got your own components....

The Ryzen 16 core TR processor is $1250  (from newegg).

A motherboard for that ranges from $450 - $800,
(apparently depending on what kind of special effects
light show you want... )

The MSI boards handle DDR4 which will set you back at least another
$1200 + for 64GB of Corsair. You could go as high as 128GB with some of
the newer boards.

CPU Cooler (heat sink etc. ) $200.

Video card ~$250.

Power supply another $200.

A box to put it all in ~$150.


Total $3700-ish

That price is do-able if we just:

- eat once a week
- shower in the rain without soap
- turn off the power and heat (except Saturdays)
- sell the furniture
- sleep on the floor
- sell the house
- then sleep in the woods and hunt feral cats for food

For the homeless computer user option, a very long extension cord is
required. You also need to hang around the tent all the time because
people are just stealin stuff *all*the*time*.
It's easy to become bitter in that situation.
Just remember, you have a really great programming platform and
!aint nobody gonna take it, hear what I'm sayin!.

Anyway, I gotta go get more cardboard to cover the kid up.
It's starting to rain. We may just head over to the shelter.
