[Discuss] Kernel interpretation of pressing the reset button?

I believe in this sentence you have confused reset with power off.
For example, <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reset_button> states
"on most computers the power button can remove power immediately if
held down for a few seconds", and I also have observed that behaviour
(i.e., powering down the equipment when you hold the power button down
long enough) on a number of computers (including my latest) over the
years.

Since my Corsair Carbide case has an area to press labelled by an icon
for "reset" and an area to press labelled by on icon that can stand
for either "power or reset", I will be doing some experiments with
pressing both locations the next time I am in the grub menu.  I
already know that the long press of that latter icon generates a power
off (i.e., all lights and fans die within the computer), and my guess
from what the above wikipedia article said elsewhere (that quote
appeared in a previous post of mine) is the short press of the "power
or reset" icon will be equivalent to the short press of the reset
icon.  But I will see.  Note, I am reduced to performing such
experiments because the documentation of this case is minimal.
