[Discuss] ip Camera software

I am thinking of installing an ip camera at my front door and am 
therefore researching possible makes and linux compatible software. I 
plan to use an old linux system dedicated to monitoring and recording 
the video. I like the battery based Reolink Argos 2 as a device but the 
supplied software is only for windows, mac, ios and android. I have had 
a look at zoneminder and xeoma and am not impressed so I am going to try 
shinobi. Its difficult to check out the software properly without an ip 
camera so has anyone any experience of ip camera systems on linux?
