[Discuss] user name id

I am running Fedora on a partition on my desktop and OpenSuse on another 
partition on the same computer. The default user name on both is "john" 
but on Fedora this is mapped to an id 1000 and on OpenSuse to  1001. 
This in itself is not a problem but I want to share data on another 
partition and it causes an ownership error. I assume that I can change 
the mapping on or the other e.g. change OpenSuse "john" to map to 1000.

Will this cause any other unforeseen problems?
