Thanks to everyone at the LINUX meeting this morning for your help. This is follow-on to the discussion this morning. There is nothing I could see in the BIOS that I could change to prevent the USB devices from becoming disconnected. I tried connecting to the on-board video (only port is HDMI) and while again this worked perfectly in Windows, it was if anything worse in Ubuntu.I then realized that the Video card in the computer is not a new one, but rather the same one I had in the old computer -- it had just been moved over to the new one.it is an ASUS ENGTX550 which uses NVIDIA chipset. It worked perfectly in the old computer until its motherboard failed.Other than replacing the new motherboard (but with what????) or going to a Raspberry Pi, I am at a loss as to what else to do or try. The problem with the Raspberry Pi is that I think it will be difficult to move to a later OS and retain all the installed software and other settings plus it will be messy to try to include get all the hard drives from the new computer to be attached to the RP.Any more suggestions would be appreciated.Murray
