[Discuss] LINUX problem -- wrong keyboard layout on boot screen

I had not used my old Acer Aspire One for a long time, but decided to plug it in and update the systems. I found that I could not log in. I thought I had forgotten my password, so I booted into recovery mode, went got a root terminal and "changed" my password by using passwd. However, this password did not work. I tried all kinds of things I found by Google searches but none worked.I do have a work around:At the login prompt, instead of trying to login to my account at first, I selected "other". I typed my password into the place where you would normally put another user name. For the keys that were incorrect, I fooled around with lots of options until I found a combination that would enter the correct letter (e.g. I found that to get the letter "M" I set Caps Lock, then held down the <FUNCTION> key while pressing the letter "M".  Once I had the correct password in that location, I copied it, then selected my account to login and pasted the password from above. This worked. Once I am logged in, the keyboard layout is correct and works fine.Why is the keyboard layout wrong on Boot? And how can I fix it? I can live with it the way it is, but it is annoying and I am very curious to know why this happened.Another problem after my updates: WiFi no longer works. My wireless adapter is:Broadcom BCM4313 802.11bgn Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01)I am not too surprised by this. I took a chance and updated to LUbuntu 21.04 (and it is not even the Beta version yet) so I can expect bugs. Since I am not travelling I am not using this computer. It is the ideal size for air travel, but a bit slow (especially Windows 10) for daily use). I would not be using WiFi an an airline anyway, and maybe they will fix it. Other than that, I have had no problems with it so far.Murray
