[Discuss] OpenWRT Change WiFi Password

Now, without doing anything else, some devices have connected using the new password, but my LINUX desktop still won't do so properly. It will connect to the 5G radio where I have made no changes.

OK I changed it to WPA2, but that didn't help. If I try to use the password in luci under WiFi, Radio 0, which is the same one as in /etc/config/wireless, it says wrong password. If I enter the old password, it says connected, but with that there is no internet connection. I cannot figure out how it can keep rejecting the new password unless there is something somewhere else that also needs to be changed and still has the old password lurking there. I just tried connecting my phone to the 2.4G WiFi and same problem. Maybe I will try changing it back to the old password and see what happens, unless someone can suggest another place to change things.

Hi Murray,

Not all devices know how to do WPA3. I ran into this at the last NetSIG, where some couldn't connect to the wireless.

I changed the Wireless->Edit (your SSID)->Wireless Security tab->Encryption to WPA2 (any of them should work) in LuCI. Then the folks at NetSIG could connect.

I hope this helps,

Craig...

I tried to change the WiFi password for the 2.4G channel using the luci interface, and also in /etc/config/wireless. According to the luci interface, it has changed, and also in the config file. I was then able to login on several devices, but after a while, the WiFi disconnected and when I tried to login again, it said "wrong password". If I used the old password, it says that it connects, but there is no internet. If I look at the config file and the luci interface, they both show the new password.

Any idea what is going on, and how I can fix it? The 5G channel is working OK (but some of my devices are not 5G compatible).

Thanks for any help,

Murray

PS hope to see some of you virtually on Saturday. MS
