Not sure about benchmarks for openjdk but I have noticed that some<br>
things slightly faster if you install oracle java.<br>

Having said that, java was probably a lousy choice for<br>
development of an emulator. I think the expectation was that<br>
Moores' law would have taken us farther than it actually did,<br>
thus hiding the inefficiencies of the actual java language.<br>

The interaction of java with the 2.6 kernel and various layers<br>
in linux makes things lock up if you try too many java things at the same time. (ie: run virtual box and a java applet in host web browser.)<br>

Java does that in windows too.<br>

The failings of java are just optimized better in windows because<br>
they spent more time working on support for that O.S. during<br>
development.<br>
<br>
There are other virtual machines but virtual box is the best<br>
'FREE' one.<br>
