Announcements

Carl "Captain Meeting" Constantine opened the meeting at about 7pm, with a couple Linux news items. RedHat was putting some money into "Linux Ventures", and Corel was still trying to save its butt with the Inprise merger. Generally, though, it had been a quiet month.

With El Presidente and the membership director away, Carl also had to take over their segments of the meeting. In the commercial moment he told us about the Club's Linux CDs at $10 each, including the new Slackware 7 and RedHat 6.2, and t-shirts at $20 each. For membership benefits including discounts at computer and book stores and other places, check the Web site.

Matthew Skala did his usual count of the meeting attendees, and then gave a shameless plug for his BB&C Perl Course. The presenters were having trouble with their demo system; although they offered to demo fdisk and fsck, Carl instead conducted a brief Q&A session. Among other things, we kicked around the new features of XFree 4, Corel's latest office suite product, and system requirements for Linux laptops. Murray Strome tried to give away his old Amiga 1000.

Presentation

Hans-Peter Oeste, on diskless Linux workstations.

BREAK

Further Presentation

Conclusion of the diskless workstation demo, after a break for fighting with the demo machine configuration.

Adjourned

To Boston Pizza, for the usual refreshments.
