I think you are overly worried about the bios update.

If idling is the issue, then idle no more . 
Set your power management to shut the computer down after an hour instead of suspend.

There was a problem with a Dell workstation I previously used. The mobo / CPU combination didn’t suspend correctly and always locked up on suspend.
The workaround was to never suspend. Dell never fixed the issue.

I don't worry about Spectre. Nobody wants anything I have.
