[Discuss] Curious DNS Lookups

I've just (yesterday) set up a pi-hole on my home network. Looking at
the query log, I'm amazed at how many queries are being sent to the
nameserver. And I see a fair number of queries that I can't explain.
My ISP sets the WAN domain name on the router. This has been passed on
the resolv.conf on my main machine. So when my email client checks for
new mail, a query is sent for mail.fletcher.ca. The odd thing is that a
query is also sent for mail.fletcher.ca.hostname.com (hostname
substituted for the actual hostname).
So I edited resolv.conf to put in my own hostname. Now the additional
queries are for mail.fletcher.ca.fletcher.ca, which still seems strange.
I'm having no problems with my email.
Should I just eliminate the hostname from resolv.conf? Why are these
extra queries being made?
BTW, the pi-hole is a pretty cool project!
Thanks,
Ed
