Not really.

Darren is absolutely right that most modern mailing lists default to
no monthly reminder so that is what most veteran mailing-list users
expect.  For example, I subscribe to something like ~10 mailing lists
and only the vlug mailing list still defaults to a monthly reminder.
Therefore, it is worth discussing whether *this* mailing list
continues with that old-fashioned/inconvenient default that requires
every member that doesn't like that insecure monthly reminder to
change their own personal configuration.

That said, I recognize that the current score is two strongly for the
change and two strongly against with most not caring.  So unless
further strong opinion tilts a lot more toward the "for" side we
likely should just stick with the status quo even though that
old-fashioned/inconvenient approach will tend to surprise those who
are new subscribers to this list.
