[Discuss] OpenWRT Change WiFi Password

Craig,
The radios have different SSIDs. I was trying to set the things up for the case you did not give:
3. two different radios with different SSIDs but each with the same password.
I have now changed the setup back to the original:
2. the SSIDS different, and different passwords. The only problem with the original is that the password for the 2.4G radio is weaker than I like.
I don't try to change the configuration on a computer that is connected by WiFi, only using one connected by Ethernet to the router.
Thanks.
Murray

Murray,
Don't run the two different radios with the _same_ SSID, and different passwords. That is a recipe for disaster. Either:
1. Make the SSIDs and passwords the same, and don't care which one you connect to OR
2. Make the SSIDs different, and different passwords (this is what I do).
BTW, don't change SSIDs config that you are attached to (that is your laptop is using wireless while reconfiguring the wireless on the router). That is like sawing the branch that you are sitting on. When I configure wireless, I either: A) plug in Ethernet to the router, or B) connect to a different router (and SSID) which is connected to the router I am configuring by Ethernet.
I hope this helps,
Craig...

yes, several times. After one of those times, it worked for a while, then disconnected and was back to same problem. After most of the reboots, nothing changed.

I was then able to login on several devices, but after a while, the WiFi disconnected and when I tried to login again, it said "wrong password". If I used the old password, it says that it connects, but there is no internet. If I look at the config file and the luci interface, they both show the new password.
I find, when encountering weirdness in openwrt after config changes, that a reboot will fix things. Have you tried rebooting?
