[Discuss] VirtualBox question

I use VirtualBox for running the odd Windows program I need and also for 
testing any Linux distro that I want to try and I have found that the 
Linux distros run very very slowly compared to Windows Vista. My host 
distro is OpenSuse 13.1 and my computer has 8 GB of Ram, which I share 
4GB to OpenSuse and 4GB to any virtual machine I am running. Does anyone 
have any answers why Linux distros should run slowly on VirtualBox?
